What began as a little school on Madison Avenue and 54th Street persevered through the turn of the century, the panic of 1907, World War I, the Roaring Twenties, and the Depression. It remained steadfast to the mission of its founder, Saint Madeline Sophie Barat, as it moved to the Otto Kahn mansion on the corner of 91st Street and 5th Avenue and expanded into the James Burden mansion at 7 East 91st Street, facing the changes and challenges of each generation. Despite the extraordinary transformations since its beginnings, at 91st Street the spirit of the Sacred Heart is still imparted to the students with as much richness and care as at any time in its history.

This is the story of a school that lives out Mother Barat s mission of preparing the hearts, intellects and souls of young women so that they may contribute to the individual leadership that truly changes our nation and our world.
